Iowa State celebrates 49ers QB Purdy with two-page Chronicle ad

Iowa State University placed a two-page ad in Sunday's San Francisco Chronicle honoring former Cyclones quarterback Brock Purdy, who played for the 49ers.

The two-page poster calls Purdy Mr. Irrelevant since he was the 49ers' final choice in the 2022 NFL Draft. His extraordinary journey from No. 262 overall pick to MVP-contending QB this season is a feel-good story.

The advertisements showcase Purdy's excellent achievements, including a comparison of his throwing yards, touchdowns, adjusted quarterback rating, and completion % from his sophomore year at Iowa State to his second NFL season. Iowa State sent a brief note congratulating Purdy on his record-breaking 2023 NFL season.

Brock Purdy is no longer unimportant, as everyone knows. At Iowa State, we always knew he was good.” Iowa State advertised. Not just due of his 13 school records, but also because of his drive, poise, and confidence under pressure, which we teach every Cyclone before they start their career.

Congratulations, Mr. Relevant, on another great sophomore year. We always knew you were Purdy great.” Purdy went from third-string QB to starting for the 49ers in the NFC Championship Game in his rookie season, but his second year has been different.

Purdy leads the NFL in passer and quarterback ratings after a ruptured UCL in the NFC title game last year. He also established the 49ers' single-season passing yard record to cement his MVP candidacy and make his first Pro Bowl.

Coach Kyle Shanahan and others praised Purdy's mindset and approach to the QB position for helping the 49ers win the NFC playoffs and home-field advantage.

The 49ers rested Purdy and other players in the Week 18 regular-season finale against the Los Angeles Rams to prepare for an NFC Divisional Round game at Levi's Stadium on Saturday, January 20 or Sunday, January 21.
